Pricing and Payment

Therapy Pricing and Payment

Karos Counseling operates on a private-pay model. This page explains what that means, how the process works, and what to expect before and after booking.

Free 15-minute consult first

Before intake or any fee discussion, the first step is a free 15-minute consultation. It is a low-pressure conversation to talk through what is going on, ask questions, and determine whether this is the right fit — before any commitment.

Private-pay model

Karos Counseling does not bill insurance directly. Fees and session structure are discussed during the consult so there are no surprises. The private-pay model keeps the focus on clinical fit rather than insurance authorization.

Superbills available

A superbill — a detailed receipt that includes the diagnosis and service codes insurers require — is available upon request after each session. Many clients use superbills to seek out-of-network reimbursement directly from their insurance provider.

How the payment conversation works

Fees are not listed here because private-pay rates are discussed directly during the free consult — not posted on a public page first. The consult is the right place for that conversation: you can ask questions, understand exactly what is included, and decide whether to move forward with full information.

What counts as a session?

Sessions include the initial intake, ongoing therapy sessions, and athlete or school-based consultation sessions. Session length and cadence vary by client and are discussed during intake.

How does out-of-network reimbursement work?

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you pay for sessions directly and then submit the superbill to your insurer for reimbursement. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan. Your insurance provider can tell you what your out-of-network benefit looks like before you begin.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before beginning services. A written estimate is available upon request before intake.
